The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Thursday, May 19, 1921
Herman L. Allen, father of Fred and Frank Allen, passed away last evening at 8 
o’clock at Traverse city.  At the time of his death Mr. Allen was 66 years of 
age and had been in failing health for several years.

Mr. Allen was born in New York state and had lived in Ionia for several 
years.  While a resident of Ionia he was away with his business for 
considerable time for he was in the mill business in northern Michigan.  Mr. 
Allen suffered a stroke six years ago and another three years ago.  There was 
thirteen days difference between the age of Mr. Allen and his wife, who passed 
away last January.

Mr. Allen is survived by four children, Frank and Fred Allen of this city, and 
Mrs. Wm. Graham and Geo. Allen, both of Grand Rapids.  He is also survived by 
two brothers, Chas. L. Allen of Cadillac, and Emerson Allen of Allegan.  While 
a resident of Ionia Mr. and Mrs. Allen lived on West Washington street.  The 
announcement of the funeral will be made later.
