The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Wednesday, March 18, 1925

Mrs. R. Allen, one of the best known residents of Ionia city and wife of the 
late Dr. Thomas R. Allen, died at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Norton 
at 5:30 Tuesday afternoon after an illness lasting about 10 days.  The cause 
of Mrs. Allen’s death was given as a complication of diseases.

Mrs. Allen, who was 80 years of age, was always active in affairs of St. 
John’s Episcopal church of which she was a member.  Her husband, Dr. Allen, 
died about nine years ago.  The Allen home, until a few years ago, stood where 
the Fashion store is now located.  The house stood back among beautiful shade 
trees and the office building stood close to the street.

The body will be brought from Pewamo Thursday to her home on West Main 
street.  The funeral will be from the residence Friday afternoon at 2 
o’clock.  Burial will take place in Oak Hill cemetery.

The funeral service for Mrs. Thomas R. Allen was attended from the residence 
on West Main street, Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock.  Rev. Thomas LeRoy Parker, 
rector of St. John’s Episcopal church had charge of the services.

Mrs. Thane Benedict and Chandler Haight with Mrs. Doris Cox at the piano, 
furnished the music.  The bearers, old neighbors of Mrs. Allen’s, were N. J. 
Spaulding, Arthur Case, John Adgate and Levi Marshall.  Burial took place in 
the family lot at Oak Hill cemetery.

Those from out of the city to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. L. Wells of 
Grand Ledge, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Allen of Grand Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. 
Norton of Pewamo and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Norton of Muir.
