Mrs. Mary Lou Allen died at Blodgett Hospital, Grand Rapids, Saturday, March 
3, where she had been seriously ill for 15 weeks.  

Deceased was the daughter of William and Katherine Welton, a graduate of the 
Ionia High School in the class of 1890, and the widow of Gilbert C. Allen, who 
was connected with the old State Savings Bank here and later paymaster of the 
G.R.&I. railroad company, Grand Rapids, until his death in 1911.  Most of Mrs. 
Allen’s married life was spent in Grand Rapids.  Later she lived in Detroit 
and Toronto, Canada.  About eight years ago she moved to Ionia.  She was of a 
most loving disposition, a faithful wife and devoted mother.  Mrs. Allen had 
been in failing health for the past eight years.  She was an ardent Catholic 
and bore her suffering without complaint.

She is survived by her son, Lewis W. Allen, and one sister, Anna E. Welton, 
both of Ionia.  Also a host of friends.  She will be greatly missed in this 
community.
  
Largely attended funeral services were held Tuesday morning from SS Peter and 
Paul’s church with burial in the family lot in Mt. Olivet.
