The Portland Observer, Thursday, December 30, 1915


The remains of Alfred Allen, Portland’s pioneer liveryman and genuine good 
citizen, whose death from an attack of gangrene was noted in these columns 
last week, was laid to rest in a crypt in Portland cemetery, Sunday afternoon 
following funeral services at the M. E. church conducted by Rev. C. E. 
Pollock.  Many steadfast friends of the old days, together with a host of 
acquaintances formed in later years, attended the last rites.  It was 
impossible, however, for any of his sister to attend.  The floral offerings 
were unusually abundant.
