Ionia Standard, 9 Dec 1881

Keene.  From the Stanton Herald.  Mr. Charles W. Alloway, late of Keene, Ionia 
county, died in this place on Thursday evening last and was buried on Sunday.  
His age was 28 years and he leaves a wife and two children.  His father, John 
Alloway, and mother, were telegraphed for and though they came as quickly as 
possible they did not arrive until after his death.  The circumstances leading 
to his death are briefly these:  He was healthy and strong when he came here 
about four weeks previous.  About ten days ago he was walking upon one of our 
sidewalks in the evening when it was quite dark with hands in the side pockets 
of his overcoat.  He suddenly stumbled against something and fell to the walk 
before he could disengage his hands from his pockets.  His stomach struck 
something causing internal hemorrhage and creating great pain which only 
relieved by death.  His father requests us to express his thanks to the people 
of Stanton for their kind and charitable attentions to the deceased and his 
family during his illness.
