Ionia Sentinel Standard-Nov. 6, 1966

Wounds Sunday
A 14 year old Portland boy died Sunday morning after being shot accidentally 
at 6:30 Saturday night.

Douglas Stevan Almy was hit in the right side of the head above the eye when 
a .22 rifle discharged as he, his brother and a cousin were getting out of a 
car. They planned to go hunting on the farm of Vene Almy, his grandfather, at 
the intersection of Reeder road and Keefer highway.

The youth was taken to ionia County Memorial hospital for emergency treatment 
and transferred to Blodgett Memorial hospital in Grand Rapids by ambulance. 
State Police were advised of his death a 2:25 a.m. Sunday.

Douglas was the son of Richard Almy, Sr., of Portland.
