Word was received today of the death last night in Detroit of Alonzo Derrick, practically a lifelong resident of Ionia County. The burial will be Saturday at Muir. “Lon” Derrick was just 70 years of age and a son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Derrick. (unreadable) a hotel for many years, was a deputy sheriff of Ionia County under Sheriff Ed N. Lowery, janitor at the Maccabee Hall for many years and was well known among that group of Ionians who loved horses, as he was a devoted enthusiast of horses and horse racing. In the later years of his life he had been employed about the city at carpenter work. Mrs. Derrick, who survives him, was visiting here with Mrs. Walter Harter until about two weeks ago, when she returned to Detroit, where they were making their home with their son, Harry. Another son, Ed, of Grand Rapids, survives. Mr. Derrick had been in failing health for a number of years. Heart disease was given as the cause of death.
