Portland Observer, 18 Nov 1903

Thomas Ames died at the home of his brother Albinus in Danby on Friday morning
last, aged 71 years.  Deceased came to Michigan from New York two years ago, and
had made his home with his brother since that time.  He was a veteran of the War
of the Rebellion and was about to receive a pension for rupture of the groin,
which was the cause of his death.  He was a widower, but had two sons, Willis
and Thomas.  The former has not been located but Thomas is a stone mason and has
worked about Portland more or less for some years past.  Deceased had not a very
extensive acquaintance here.  Funeral services were conducted from the house
Sunday and burial made in Danby cemetery.  Rev. Stewart of Portland Baptist
church conducting the services.
