Mr. Anderson had been in poor health several months, but of recent weeks had been improved, and Friday afternoon and evening seemed as well as usual. He and Mrs. Anderson sat up until 11 o’clock, and shortly after retiring he complained of the fact that it was hard for him to breathe. She assisted him into a chair, where he soon lapsed into unconsciousness, and remained in this condition until his death. The death of Mr. Anderson removes from this community one of its pioneers. He was born 78 years ago last Saturday on the farm now owned by Charles Mattison in Ionia township, and lived through the period of pioneering that called for hours of the hardest kind of labor. He was a blacksmith by trade, and at one time conducted a shop where the Schild battery shop is now located. He a was also a lumberman, and during his early manhood he saw much of the prime timber in the northeast part of the township sawed into lumber. He was a member of the Ionia Church of Christ, and served the denomination for seven years as a deacon. He also held membership in the Oddfellow lodge, the Fred Hall canton and the Beatrice Rebekah lodge. Besides his widow, to whom he has been married 20 years, he leaves two sons, Verne of Detroit, and Lee of Hastings. He also leaves a brother, James D. Anderson, or Muir; two sisters Mrs. C.O. Miller, and Mrs. Ione Faulkner of Muir. These, with Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Beatrice Smith, and Mr. Miller, spent last Saturday, January 26, his seventy-eighth birthday anniversary, with him. He also has a half-brother, Edward Nolty, of Lyons. Full arrangements for the funeral services will not be made until the arrival of the two sons. The services will be in charge of Rev. Herbert G. Hurrell. The burial will be in Highland Park cemetery.
