Ionia Sentinel Standard, 8 Apr 1930

Ernest L. Anderson, a native of Sweden and a former resident of Ionia, died at
the Francis Edwards apartments, Detroit, Sunday evening at 11:45, following a
six weeks illness of pneumonia.  His death came most unexpectedly and during a
call of his physician.  Services were held to in the Dahlman funeral chapel in
Detroit Tuesday and the body brought to the Bradley funeral home, where services
will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock.  Interment will take place in
the Highland Park cemetery.

Mr. Anderson left the Fatherland when a youth of 17 and in 1898 came to Ionia,
where he and his brothers, Henry and Fred engaged in the monumental works known
as the Anderson Brothers Granite Co.  While in the business they place the large
monument on the courthouse square and the stone masonry in front of the doctor’s
residence at the Ionia State hospital.  Leaving Ionia in 1905, he engaged in the
monumental business in Detroit and upon leaving Ionia organized to the Anderson
Granite company in Detroit in 1915.  Although he sold his interests in the
company five years ago, it is still doing business under the old trade name. 
This company specialized in mausoleums and other large monuments of the high
class of stones.  After his retirement he traveled extensively.

He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Robbins of San Gabriel, Cal.; Mrs.
Axel Pierson, of Grand Rapids; Mrs. Clara Egelin, Sweden; a brother, Charles, of
Sweden; two nieces, Mrs. Harvey E. Cochrane and Mary Louise Anderson, Lansing;
one sister-in-law, Mrs. Emily Anderson, Ionia, and several nieces and nephews in
Sweden.
