Mr. Anderson was born in Sweden in 1870, coming to this country in 1883 and working throughout Ionia county. In august 1897, accompanied by George Weber, Mr. Anderson started for Alaska, but Mr. Weber did not complete the trip. He left Seattle with Dick Ader and the two men went to Scadway, Alaska. The two men worked there that fall. Each one of the men built a log cabin on their lot, and stayed there during the winter. The next spring he sold the cabin and lot for $800. During the winter of ’97 he freighted his outfit across the mountain, and worked on various claims in the Klondike region. A friend and Mr. Anderson purchased a share of a ranch from a man in that vicinity who was unable to work the ranch alone. The three men worked the ranch together and during the first three months about $7,000 was cleared. The next spring Mr. Anderson bought the ranch alone. After 10 years he came home, but later returned to the Klondike and remained about six months. He was married in 1906 to Emma Johnson, who survives her husband. He is also survived by two children, Lella and Frances. One child died in infancy. Mr. Anderson returned to Ionia in October 1906 and lived in the city for about a year. He then bought a farm in Ionia township and resided there until his death. Besides his wife and children is he survived by three sisters, Mrs. Lena Erickson and Mrs. Ida Henderickson of Ionia, and Mrs. Bertha Hammoll of Batavia, Illinois. He is also survived by three brothers, August Anderson of Muskegon; John Anderson of North Plains and Anthony Anderson of Canada, besides nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held from the residence at 1 o’clock and from the Ionia Presbyterian church at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. W. R. Spencer will officiate at the service. Burial will take place at Highland Park cemetery.
