Thomas Aniba died at 10:30 this morning, at the home of Wm. Milligan, E. Frost street, where he has received care and attention for several weeks. He has been in feeble health several years, and has been confined to the house about six months. He was 83 years old, and had been a resident of Ionia 48 years, coming here in 1855. His first occupation here was as painter and paper hanger; he was subsequently in the grocery business for several years, but had not been in active business for a long time. He served the country as a soldier during the Rebellion, going out as sergeant of Co. A. 21st infantry, and on his discharge for disability following the horrors of the Kentucky march; he reenlisted in the Mich. Engineers and Mechanics. His wife died many years ago. Two children survive: Arthur A. and Mrs. Wm. Mead, both of Grand Rapids. He was widely respected as an honorable, conscientious man, and a good citizen, of the sterling pioneer type.
