Alice was born December 3, 1937, at River Rogue, the daughter of Harry and Clarabelle Wheeler Smith She married John G. Antikainen on February 13, 1971. She worked for the Michigan Employment Security Commission in Ionia for five years and retired in 2000 from the Department of Corrections, where she had worked in the clerical department for 18 years with the Michigan Reformatory in Ionia. She and her husband had lived in Crystal since 1980, coming from the Hubbardston area. She attended St. Bernadette of Lourdes in Stanton and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carson City. She loved caring for animals, especially cats, and was a good neighbor and a friend to everyone. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, John; three brothers, Buck and Margy Smith of Virginia, Elmer and Lois Smith of California, Arthur and Barbara Smith of Allen Park; sister, Elayne Alexander of Riverview; and numerous nieces and nephews. No services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions in memory of Alice may be made to the Humane Society.
