October 1904 Julia, daughter of Aaron and Nancy Philips, was born at Youngstown, Ohio, October 23, 1852. When two years old she moved with them to Iowa where the mother died four years later leaving her and two sisters to the care of the father. At the age of thirteen she returned with the family to Ohio, and came to Michigan with friends four years later. Here on July 20, 1870 she was married to Julius Anway. To them were born three children, the eldest dying in infancy. Twenty one years ago they moved to Omer, Michigan, where she has since lived. Mr. Anway died in Florida, twelve years ago, leaving her only her two manly sons, who have been so great a help and comfort to her. At sixteen years of age she joined the Christian church at Bluffton, O., and has since been a loyal and consistent Christian worker. At her late home she was a member of the Methodist church. Besides her two sons she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Frank Johnson of this place and Mrs. Marshall, of Nebraska, and a host of friends to mourn the loss of a devoted mother, loving sister and firm friend. She died as she had lived, without complaining and thoughtful of others. She is at rest in the assurance of eternal life and a reward for a well spent life. Mrs. Anway was brought to the home of her sister, Mrs. Frank Johnson, a few weeks ago in fast failing health and there she received every comfort and the most tender care. But ministering hands could only help to ease her suffering and were powerless to stay the disease. She passed away on Thursday afternoon, October 20, 1904. The funeral was held at the Apostolic church on Saturday afternoon and was largely attended, the pastor of the Methodist church officiating, with appropriate music by the Methodist choir. Her acquaintances speak of her in terms of highest praise, and the verdict of her friends is that a good Christian woman has gone to her father’s home.
