Ardis, 56, of Ionia went to be with his Lord after his courageous battle with cancer on Feb. 19, 2002 at his home. He was born on Jan. 15, 1946 in Cadillac, the son of Bernard and Bertha (Fehsenfeld) Ardis. Howard attended SS. Peter and Paul Academy and he graduated from Ionia High School in 1964. He attended various classes at Lansing Community College and Montcalm Community College. He married former Carol Dowsett on April 8, 1978. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia. He worked at Ionia Hardware for nine years. He worked as the Ionia City assessor/building inspector for 17 years. A member of the Ionia Moose, the Ionia Lions and a member of the Ionia Fishing and Hunting Club. Howard was an avid golfer. Surviving are his wife, Carol; three sons, Tim Ardis of Ionia, Stephen (Norma) Lazarus of Orleans and Jonathan (Stacy) Lazarus of Ionia; three daughters Julia Wells (Mark Bennett) of Ionia, Ruth Purkey of Ionia and Joy (Tim) Simon of Pewamo; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers, Harvey (Kay) Ardis of Diamondale, Rev. John B. Ardis of Boston, Mass., and Bernard (Lyn) Ardis of Ionia; three sisters, Nancy Flinn of Ionia, Mary (Phillip) Perrien of Ionia and Joan (James) Nummer of Ionia. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Donald Ardis in 1993. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m., Thurs., Feb. 28 from SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia with Fr. John Ardis as presider. The organist will be Mary Cusack. Visitation for Howard will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tues., Feb. 26 and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wed., Feb. 27 with a Celebration of Life Service at 8 p.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia. Memorial contributions can be made to SS. Peter and Paul Educational Trust Fund, the Ionia Area Hospice or the Ionia Moose Lodge in care of Cook Funeral Home.
