The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Friday, March 16, 1973
Samuel G. Ardis, 94, of 323 Forest, died Thursday afternoon at Ionia Manor 
after being a patient 4 ½ months.  Previously he had made his home with his 
son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Ardis.  Born in Evart, February 24, 1879, 
he was the son of William and Mary Boyd Ardis.  He attended Evart schools and 
in 1898 moved to McBain.  He made his home there until the past few years when 
he lived most of the time with his married children.

In 1904 he was married at Mt. Pleasant to Katherine Burke and they owned and 
operated the Ardis Brothers General store in McBain until 1944.  He then 
worked at the McBain Hardware ten years before retiring.  He was a member of 
the McBain Presbyterian church.  

He was preceded in death by his wife Katherine in 1942, an infant daughter and 
also a married daughter, Mrs. Margaret Draper in 1972.  Surviving are three 
sons, Bernard of Ionia, Burke of Lake City and Evart of Ypsilanti; daughter, 
Mrs. Hilton Ux of Mt. Pleasant; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at McBain Presbyterian church.  
Rev. Ronald VanHeukelom will officiate and interment will be at Mount View 
cemetery.  Friday evening the body will be at Veldsma funeral home at McBain 
where family will receive friends and relatives from 7 to 9 p.m.  Funeral 
arrangements were made by Donald Leddick of the Leddick funeral home in 
Ionia.  A memorial fund has been established and contributions may be left at 
the Leddick funeral home.
