Arends Sr., 80, of Ionia, passed away Nov. 14, 2000, at the Cumberland Manor in Lowell. He was born the son of William and Sena Arends Jan. 7, 1920, in Chester Township. He founded the Centennial Acres Dairy Farm in 1941 until the present. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are six children; Joan and Robert Bont of Grand Rapids; Bernadette and Jack Taylor of Dallas, Texas; Bonnie and James Wilson of Midland; Nancy and James Piggush of East Lansing; Maxine and Raymond Marshke of Alpena; Matthew and Linda Arends Jr., of Ionia; his step-children, Paget Seymour of Grand Rapids; James and Diane Seymour of Ionia and Betsy and Rene Miller of Ionia; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernadette Trudell and Rose Umlor. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice, in 1979; his second wife, JoAnne, in 1999; and his son Larry in 1966. The funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday from SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Conklin. Visitation is 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia with a Prayer Vigil service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
