(Seymour) Arends, 68, of Ionia, passed away Thursday, April 15, 1999, at her home. She was born the daughter of Verdier and Marian (McIntyre) Joslin, July 19, 1930, in Grand Rapids. She moved as a young girl with her family from Grand Rapids to Ionia 60 years ago. She graduated from Ionia High School in 1949. Together with her husband, James, they owned Seymour Tire & Battery. She continued ownership with her son, Jim, until 1993. JoAnne was an active business-woman in Ionia for over 40 years. She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, in Ionia, and she also was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She married James Seymour in 1948, and he preceded her in death in 1970. She married Matthew Arends in 1981. Surviving are her husband: Matthew Arends Sr.; her children; Paget Seymour of Grand Rapids, James (Diane) Seymour of Ionia and Betsy (Rene) Miller of Ionia; six step-children; Matthew (Linda) Arends Jr. of Ionia, Nancy (Jim) Pigguish of East Lansing, Joan (Robert) Bont of Grand Rapids, Maxine (Raymond) Marshky of Hubbard Lake, Bonnie (James) Wilson of Midland, Bernadette (Jack) Taylor of Texas; 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four sisters; Mary Jo (Robert) Conley of Battle Creek, Carol (Richard) Fosburg of Ionia, Judith (Phillip) Asiala of Naples, Fla. and Elizabeth (Betsy) Lichtenfelt of Edmore. The Funeral Mass will be offered 11 a.m. Saturday from SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, in Ionia, with Fr. Melvin Fox as presider. The organist will be Mary Cusack. Visiting hours: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday with a Rosary Service at 8 p.m. Friday at the Rich St. Chapel of Cook Funeral Home, Ionia. Memorial contributions to the SS.
