The Ionia Weekly Standard, Friday, November 17, 1893

E. B. Armstrong, the pioneer dry goods merchant, of Saranac, died on Sunday, 
after an illness of but a few days, at the age of 72.  He cleared the stumps 
from his lots to build his store; 45 years ago.  He was burned out in the big 
fire about four years ago, and has not since been in trade.  The funeral took 
place this afternoon.  He leaves a widow, a sister of Mrs. H. R. Wagar of this 
city, but no children.
