The remains of Miss Emma Arnold arrived in Ionia on the early Grand Trunk train Sunday morning, and the sister in charge and Mrs. Jennie Hurd were met at the depot by many sympathizing friends. The remains were taken at once to the home of the brother, E.I. Arnold, 441 E. Washington St., where the funeral service will be attended at 2:00 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon. Interment in the family lot in Oak Hill. -------------- Many Ionia friends are eager to know the exact manner of the accident. It is said by those who met deceased at the depot in Chicago, that she never seemed happier; she was particularly cheerful in her conversation, and had much home news to relate. Several changes of street cars were made between the depot and the home of her sister, and at each change except the last, she left the car following her escort. Upon nearing their destination she spoke up with apparent happiness, “Oh, this begins to look like home.” She had visited at the home of her sister, and knew the surroundings somewhat. She was sitting near the car door, and when it stopped she stepped off ahead of her sister, and walked around the rear of the car, as was necessary to reach the side of street desired. She then faced about, apparently to safeguard herself, and was instantly run down by a car approaching at high speed from the opposite direction. She was rendered unconscious from the impact, was carried in a nearby store, and was taken thence to hospital as quick as an ambulance could be summoned, where she passed away about an hour and a half after the accident. Miss Mary Arnold feels that she cannot refrain from giving expression of her deep gratitude for the many kindly acts at the time of the accident. A dozen or more men and women - all strangers, were on the spot instantly, and everyone proffering assistance, either in caring for the injured woman or summoning aid and friends. Without this aid she would have been powerless.
