Ionia Sentinel Standard, 24 Dec 1928

William Arnold, 25, who was born and reared in Ionia, and who received his early
education here, died in a hospital in VanWert, O., Saturday morning of an
illness of flu.  Mr. Arnold was teaching in the Marsh foundation school when
taken ill, and had been in the hospital but a short time when he died.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Arnold, lived on West Washington street for many
years, and were residents there at the death of Mr. Arnold 10 years ago, and
where Mrs. Arnold continued to live until her death three years ago.

Although still young he had accomplished much in preparing himself for a
profession.  He graduated from the Ionia high school in 1920.  He completed the
teachers’ training course at Kalamazoo and later obtained a degree from Ann
Arbor.  In life he possessed much ability and judgment and enjoyed himself as he
persisted in his studies.  Only those who came in contact with him could
appreciate his rare qualities.

He leaves one sister, Mrs. Susibel Featherstone, of Menden.  She was with him at
the time of his death, and accompanied the body to Ionia.  The funeral services
were held Monday afternoon.

The funeral services were held from the Stebbins Funeral home Monday afternoon
at 1:30.  Burial took place in Saranac.  Monroe Winchell, Frederick Smith,
Victor Tuttle, classmates of the young man in school and college and Maurice
Benedict a classmate of Mr. Arnold in high school served as bearers.  Rev.
Alfred [unreadable] was in charge of the service.
