He was born January 20, 1898, in East Liverpool, Ohio, the son of Phillip Arnold and Myrtie Rosenburg. Mr. Arnold retired from the Secretary of State office after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of Canadian Expeditionary Force serving with the 13th Battalion in France during World War 1; member of American Legion Post No. 129; past member of Portland Kiwanis; past master of Portland Masonic Lodge No. 21 F & AM; member of the First Congregational Church in Portland and served nine years on the Portland City Council. He was married in London, England, August 15, 1918, and last August he and his wife Jessie, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Survivors include his wife, Jessie; one son, Richard of Big Rapids; two daughters, Mrs. Colleen Sandborn of Portland and Mrs. Donna Weaver of Dansville; eleven grandchildren and four great granddaughters. Funeral services were held Monday, January 8, at the First Congregational Church, Portland. Rev. Ronald Lake officiated in services conducted by Portland Mason Lodge No. 31 F & Am at the church. Burial followed the committal service in Portland Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the First Congregational Church building fund and donations may be made at the Neller funeral home, Portland.
