All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sandy Heintzelman sheintz@iserv.net January 9, 2010, 10:11 pm Ionia Sentinel Standard, 23 Jun 1941 Belding Girl Is Crash Victim At Greenville Miss Bernice Ash, 21, Belding, was killed and four other persons injured Sunday when cars driven by Wanda Smith, 16, of Belding, and Patrick Pigett, 19, of Ionia, collided at a Main street intersection in Greenville. Injured in the crash were Miss Wanda Smith, Kenneth Cogswell, 20, of Greenville, Miss Eleanor Shindorf, 18, of Belding, and William Hansing of Ionia. Miss Shindorf and Hansing received minor injuries and were released from the Greenville hospital, while Miss Smith and Cogswell remained in the hospital for treatment, although they were not thought seriously hurt. Anton Madison, Greenville officer, said that the accident occurred when Miss Smith drove into the intersection past a stop sign. No inquest will be held according to Coroner H. B. Weaver. Miss Ash has resided in Belding since 1939. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Ash; three sisters, Mrs. Thelma Church of Dewitt, Mrs. Lucille Buller of Flint, and Alice at home; and four brothers, Stanley, Richard, Celentine and Frank at home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic church in Belding with burial at St. Joseph cemetery.
