Ash, 92, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday evening, December 28, 2005 at Metron of Greenville after a long and productive life. He was born November 30, 1913 in Beal City, the son of Anthony and Anna Strous Ash. Frank considered himself a “jack of all trades, master of none,” having a wide variety of work experiences during his life, starting with striking out on his own at age 17, even riding the rails and hoboing for a while during the Great Depression. He was a machinist and a millwright in the tool and die industry, general manager of a large wheat farm in Colorado, co-worker of Frank and Norm’s Tavern in Belding and lastly co-owner and president of Tomco Tool and Die in the 1970s until his retirement. He also served as a city of Belding councilman and was a life member of Belding Masonic Lodge F&AM 355. He was married March 15, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio to Nora Smith. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Stein, Richard, Stanley; sister, Bernice; and granddaughter, Kristen Sower Mathewson. Frank is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 65 years, Nora; daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Jerry Pearson of Fenwick; grandchildren, J. Scott and Laura Palmateer of Fenwick, Liane Palmateer of Belding; five great- grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Alice Thompson of Belding, Thelma Church of Bath, Lucille McGuire of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and two sisters-in-law, Blanch Ash of Greenville, June Ash of Plymouth. Funeral and committal services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastors Bill Freeman and Ken Harger officiating. Private interment will follow in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. A luncheon is at First Congregational Church, Belding, following the service. The family will greet relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Belding Museum or the Belding Masonic Lodge.
