The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Monday, February 13, 1928
Louis A. Ashe, of the State road, who had been ill since October 25 and spent 
the past eight weeks in bed, died Saturday afternoon at 3:30 of complication 
of diseases.  Mr. Ashe was born in Branch county 47 years ago, and came to 
Ionia with the Hayes-Ionia company when it first located here.  After working 
a while in Ionia he and a business associate started the garage doing business 
under the name of Miller & Ashe, and were located in the building now occupied 
by the Chevrolet garage.  Later he became associated with Harry Charles, and 
they ran the garage in the building which is occupied by the Shell Monumental 
works.  After disposing of his interests here Mr. Ashe worked in Cleveland, 
Ohio, later returning to Ionia.  Mr. Ashe had served Ionia as an alderman.

Many deaths have come to the Ashe family the past three years.  Mr. Ashe’s 
mother died suddenly in Los Angeles, California last June, and Mrs. Ashe’s 
mother, Mrs. LeValley, who lived with them, died last October, 24 hours after 
the death of Mrs. LeValley’ sister, Mrs. Henry Spaulding of Perrington, and 
with the death of Mrs. Ashe’s father, Mr. LeValley, who died three years ago, 
his makes the third death in the same home within three years.

Surviving Mr. Ashe is the widow, a daughter, Dorothy of Detroit, and a 
brother, Charles Ashe of Los Angeles, California, who is here.  The funeral 
service will be conducted by the Masonic lodge of which Mr. Ashe was a member, 
from the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock.  Rev. Joseph H. Green will be in 
charge.  The burial will be in the Balcom 
cemetery.
