He was born in Middleton, England, Nov. 12, 1891, the son of Edward and Harriet Astle. He moved to Canada and served in the Canadian Army in France during World War I. He married Maggie Louise Ashworth June 17, 1920, and they had made their home on North State Road for 54 years. He was employed by Ypsilanti-Reed Furniture Co. and successor companies until his retirement in 1959. After his retirement he worked in the Earl Mason orchard for many years. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Mrs. Astle died Feb. 17, 1975. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Frederick Kernen of Ionia; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ettie Waterhouse, of Middleton, England, also survives. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. from St. John’s Episcopal Church, the Rev. Raymond E. Bierlein of Allegan officiating. Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at Leddick Funeral Home Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial has been established for St. John’s Episcopal church, in care of Leddick Funeral Home.
