Atchley Wore His Hair Long, Like the Distinguished Poet. George W. Atchley, for many years a resident of this town, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Helen Brace, at Grand Rapids, Sunday. The remains were brought to Portland last evening, and taken to the home of his daughter. Mrs. E. D. Verity, where funeral services will be held. The other surviving children are Mrs. Georgia Commisky, West Superior, Wis., and Seymour Atchley, Chicago. Mr. Atchley was born in New Jersey April 4, 1828, making him 86 years of age at the time of his death. Years ago he was a great hunter and fisherman and he had a fund of stories about the wild life not equalled in interest by those contained in the books. He wore his hair long, and though he never aspired toward greatness his striking resemblance to the poet Longfellow was often commented upon. His wife died many years ago.
