Ionia Sentinel, 2001

Addie Mae Atherton, 92, of Louisville, Ky., who had been residing with her 
daughter in Pewamo, for the past five years, passed away July 23, 2001 in Ionia.

She was born in Hart County, Ky., November 8, 1908, the daughter of Wesley and 
Mattie (Hines) Milby.  She married Clyde Russell Atherton September 7, 1931.  
He preceded her in death September 1, 1968.  She retired from Brown-Williamson 
Tobacco Co. in 1973 after 30 years of service.

She is survived by her daughter Mardell and Gilbert Vance-Leos of Pewamo, son 
D. Russell Atherton and Vernie (White) of Louisville, KY.  She is survived by 
four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, 
two sisters Alma Hornback of Upton, Ky., and Elsie Routt of Hodgenville, Ky.  
She was preceded in death by one grandson Perry Atherson, two sisters Ora 
Hazle, Mildred Wright, brother Roscoe Milby, son-in-law Dane Vance.

She was a member of Ormsby Heights Baptist Church in Louisville.  She attended 
Shiloh Community Church in Orleans, while living in Michigan.

Funeral services for Mrs. Atherton will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Owens 
Funeral Home in Louisville, Ky., with Rev. Rick Bowen officiating.  Interment 
at Louisville Memorial Gardens in Shively, Ky.  Visitation is Thursday from 2 
p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Owens Funeral Home.  Local arrangements by Lake Funeral 
Home in Ionia.
