Richard (Jack) M. Atherton of Portland, 83, died on Sunday in Portland.  He was 
born in Clinton County on September 8, 1910, the son of William and Hattie 
Somers Atherton.  He was a veteran of World War II, a life member of the 
Portland Ldoge No. 31 F. & A. M., and worked at  TRW until his retirement. 

He is survived by his wife, Martha; one sister, Gertrude Bennet of Eaton 
Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the Neller Chapel on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 
p.m.  Masonic services will be 8 p.m. on Tuesday by the Portland Lodge No. F. & 
A. M.  Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral 
home, with the Rev. Stephen J. Burkhart officiating.  Burial will be in North 
Eagle Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Marvin Thrasher, Leo Murphy, Wayne and Gregory Gladding, 
Max Hinds, and Leon Brokaw.  Graveside services will be conducted by the 
Portland V.F.W. Post No. 4090.
