Hastings Reminder – 21 March 2000
Mr. Paul Henry Atkins, age 84, of Belding, a long-time Barry county resident, 
passed away Friday morning, March 17, 2000 at Metron of Belding.

He was born on January 8, 1916 in Grand Ledge, the son of Jesse L. and Mary K. 
(Graff) Atkins, and received his education in Grand Ledge Schools.  Paul was 
employed at General Motors and Diamond Reo in Lansing before and after World 
War II and also Ypsilanti-Reed Company in Ionia.  He served in World War II 
with the 34th Infantry Division #168 and was wounded in Italy receiving the 
Purple Heart.  Paul married the former Dorothy Zabell in May of 1947 in Grand 
Ledge and she preceded him in death on March 21, 1997.  He was a former member 
of the Hastings Moose Lodge and very much enjoyed fishing, hunting, walking 
and all other outdoor activities.

Paul was also preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Stephen Paul 
Atkins in 1978.  He is survived by one son, James Atkins of Hastings; three 
daughters, Virginia Diane Lee of Freeport, Pam Brandenberg of Marshall, 
Virginia, and LuAnne Reaser of Ionia; 12 grandchildren and several great 
grandchildren.

Memorial Services for Paul H. Atkins will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2000 
at 10:00 A.M. at Mt. Hope Church in Portland with Pastor Joe Robbe 
officiating.  Interment will be in Woodland Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family, envelopes 
available at the Cook Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel, or at the church.  
Arrangements have been completed through the Cook Funeral Home of Ionia.
