April 26, 2018 ELNORA ESTHER ATTENBERGER, 91 Elnora Esther Attenberger, 91, of Waterville, Ohio, passed away April 24, 2018, at Heartland of Waterville. She was born Dec.8, 1926, in Ionia to Edwin and Muyr (Beckhorn ) Minaker. Elnora graduated from Ionia High school in 1945. She began her working career at the Grand Valley Meat Packing Plant in Ionia and later for the State of Michigan at the former Ionia State Hospital and then the Department of Education in Lansing. After 25 years she retired as an account executive. While working at Grand Valley (Peschkes) she met and in 1947 married Herbert Attenberger from Muir where they made their home. Elnora was very active in the village teaching Sunday school and working with the PTA and Band Boosters at Twin Rivers Elementary. Her special joy was being troop leader of a group of local girls from beginning as Brownies through Girl Scouts at High school graduation. She and Herb also hosted two German exchange students. Upon retirement Elnora and Herb divided their time between Snows Lake and Harlingen, Texas. They eventually moved to South Texas full time where she was active in their church and worked in the resort park office. They traveled widely including twice to Philippines to visit their youngest daughter's family and to Europe to visit the exchange students. After Herb's passing, Elnora came back north to be near her oldest daughter' family. She resided at the Browning Maonic Senior Facility in Waterville, Ohio for the past six years. Surviving Elnora are her daughters, Nancy Lee (Russell) Seba of Toledo and Dr. Judy Kay Sands (Fermin) Caballero of Las Vegas; three grand-daughters, Adrienne (Daniel) Amborski of Bowling Green Ohio, Shannon Well of Paducah, Ky., and Michelle (Michael) Souza of Indianapolis and one grandson, Francis (Cheryl) Caballero of Las Vegas; Also, two step-grandchildren, Carla Shaw and Jose Caballero of Phoenix. Elnora has four great- grandchildren, Gwenth and Neil Amborski, McKenna Souza, and Charlotte Caballero. She is also survived by her sister, Edna (Edward) Wray of Prudenville; and two half-sisters, Lavonnie (Allen) Mourer of Lyons and Wilma Hartman of Muir. Preceding her in death were her parents and three sisters and their husbands, Rowena (Howard) Peckham, Cherribelle (John ) Vargo, and Dora (Robert) Barker. Elnora has been cremated and per her wishes there will be no funeral service. Her ashes will be interred with her husbands at Sunset memorial Cemetery in Ionia.
