Scott Augst, pioneers of Odessa township, died at a hospital near Radford, Va., at the age of 57. All of his life had been spent in or near Lake Odessa until about a year ago when he and his wife went to Georgia. After a short time there they went to Radford, Va., where he worked in a powder plant. This winter Mrs. Augst came to Michigan to visit the children and friends. While at the home of a sister, Mrs. J. L. Carter she received a telegram telling of her husband’s illness. She and her son Gerald left immediately by train and a son Leonard left by automobile. The wife and son arrived Thursday and Mr. Augst died Friday evening. The body was shipped to Sunfield with Undertaker Mapes in charge and the funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church here of which church he was a member, with the Rev. C. E. Thies officiating and the music was furnished by Mrs. Thomas Johnson. Besides his widow he leaves two sons, two daughters, eight grandchildren and six sisters, besides many other relatives and friends. The pall bearers were Orley Gilliland, Henry Geiger, Fred Reahm, Roy Jackson, Benjamin Hazzard and Charles Gattner. Leon Augst, son of Winfield Scott Augst and Celinda Adah Augst, was born March 18, 1885, in Odessa township. He departed this life February 6, 1942 at New Altamont hospital, Christiansburg, Va. On September 9, 1907 he was joined in marriage to Ethelyn Richardson of Odessa township. To this union were born four children, Leonard of Reed City, Mrs. Clarence Kime of Clarksville, Gerald of Lake Odessa and Mrs. R. E. Jackson of Lansing. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and six sisters, Mrs. Jennie Carter, Mrs. Mary Shaw, Mrs. Florence Ainsworth of Lake Odess,a Mrs. Ruby Geiser of Ionia, Mrs. Eva Bishop of Leubers, Tex., and Mrs. Minnie DeBelle of San Diego, Cal. He was a king and loving husband and father and was loved most by those who knew him best.
