April 22, 2017 AUGUSTINE-HAYS Barbara Ellen (Carl) Augustine-Hayes, 64, of Saranac passed away early on Easter Sunday, following a brief illness. The daughter of the late Adrian and Judy Carl, Barb was born in Chicago and raised in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, before the family's moved to East Lansing, in 1969. She was a graduate of Lansing Gabriels High School who earned her bachelor's and pursued her master's degrees from Central Michigan university. She worked with Capitol Communications Systems prior to taking on Administrative positions with CMU's Satellite Campuses in Lansing and Grand Rapids. Barb married Charles Augustine in 1976 and shared adventures with him in Illinois, Colorado, and Alaska prior to moving back to Illinois to await the birth fo their baby. Live took a sorrowful turn, however as chuck died suddenly in August 1989 and their infant daughter, Kalle Ellen, died of complications within days of her birth. Buoyed by her family and faith Barb carried on with a hopeful attitude, eventually marrying Reno Hayes in 2007. Misfortune returned however, as Reno passed away in 2009. In spire of these unimaginable losses, "Aunt Barbie" was a wonderful, generous, and beloved aunt, who genuinely celebrated and delighted in the triumphs of others. Through her church, she contributed to a host of endeavors, including the food pantry and mission efforts in the Caribbean. In addition to hr parents, daughter, Chuck and Reno, Barb was predeceased by an infant sister, Christine. She is survived by brothers Chris (Ann) and Matt (Deb) and sisters Betsy, Katie (Rick), Peg, Ellen (Roger), and Tricia (Bill) and many nephews and nieces, including the two babies expected in 2017 to help fill the loss of her voice in our next family sing. Nephew Ben De Young was especially attentive in helping Barb in many ways over the years. The family also wishes to thank the members of the "Church family" for their many kindnesses, friendships, and prayers. A memorial service will be held at the Saranac Community church, 125 South Bridge St, Saranac, Mi. 48881, Pastor Becky Poor officiating, on Saturday, April 29 at 12:00 noon, with visitation at the church starting at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make donations to the Saranac Community Church in Barb's name. Her brothers and sisters like to think that she now enjoys an eternal Easter, reunited with her daughter and so many who loved her.
