The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Monday, June 26, 1978

Robert E. Austin, 70, 214 North Dexter, died Sunday at Blodgett Memorial 
hospital in Grand Rapids following a short illness.  He was born in Ionia May 
28, 1908, the son of Robert and Florence Cramer Austin and attended schools in 
Ionia.

Mr. Austin lived his entire life in Ionia and served with the US Army at Pearl 
Harbor during World War II.  He married the former Elsie Jones April 26, 
1947.  Mr. Austin was self-employed with his father for several years and also 
worked at Ionia Manufacturing and successor firms, retiring in 1970. 

One son preceded him in death.  Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert 
J. and Dennis at home; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Phyllis) Magee of Ionia and 
Mrs. Bert ( Jane) Fowler of Portland.  

Services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Leddick funeral home with Rev. Edna 
Jean Horn of the Little White church officiating.  Burial is in Balcom 
cemetery.  The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home 
Monday, 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
