Portland Observer, 30 Aug 1962

Mrs. Carrie Belle Avery, 85, who had been at the House of Faith convalescent 
home in Charlotte for the past four months, died at the Hayes-Green-Beech 
hospital, Charlotte on August 27.  She was born on July 15, 1877 and was a 
resident of Portland for many years.

Surviving are the children, Mrs. Beatrice Cotton, Deadwood, South Dakota, 
Herbert Avery, R 2 Charlotte, Mrs. Lula Durkee, Lake City, Mrs. Alice Smith, 
Portland, and Frederick Avery, Ionia.  Also surviving are fifteen 
grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, a brother, George Little, of Grand 
Rapids, and a sister, Mrs. Lucy White, of Grand Rapids.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Neller Funeral Home 
with Rev. Maurice Christenson officiating.  Burial will be in Portland 
cemetery.  Bearers will be C.J. Hill, Arnold Gross, Glenn Bozung, John Meyers, 
Gerald Moriarty and Robert Goodman.
