Belding News, 26 Apr 1916

The many friends of James Avery were shocked to learn of his sudden death,
Friday, April 21, at 6:15 o’clock in the morning.  Although in poor health for
the last three years he attended to his business up to the day before his death.

He was born in New Hampshire July 1864, and was married September 1, 1883, to
Mrs. Edgar Parshley, and they started for Michigan the 3rd of September, living
on a farm in Oakfield four years, then coming to Belding.  Mr. Avery entered the
employ of the Richardson Silk Co., and was a faithful worker twenty-eight years
up to the time of his death.  He leaves a wife to mourn her loss.

The funeral services were held at his late residence Monday afternoon at two
o’clock, Rev. Chas. M. Pease officiating.  The floral offerings were many and
beautiful.  Mrs. Henry Friedly sang three songs, with Mrs. Pease presiding at
the organ.

Mr. Avery was laid at rest in Otisco cemetery, under the auspices of the Masonic
lodge of which he was a member.  He was also a member of the Order of Foresters,
of which he was the financial secretary for twenty-one years.  He also carried
an insurance policy in the order.

Mr. Avery was treasurer and general manager of the Trimble & Avery Co.,
manufacturers of the _eerless Lawn Edge Trimmer.  He was a member of the State
Ginseng Growers association of which he was on the auditing committee.

“We cannot say that he is dead.  He is just away with a cheery smile and a wave
of the hand, he has vanished to that unknown land and left us waiting here.”
