Mrs. James Avery aged 70 years died at her home on Front street Friday night, 
March 19, after a several weeks’ illness caused by pneumonia.  Mrs. Avery was a 
long time well known and well liked resident of this city and her death marks 
the passing of another well known pioneer.  The funeral, which was private, was 
held from the residence Sunday at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. Haywood officiating and 
burial was by the side of her husband who died several years ago.  She leaves 
to mourn her loss a sister, Mrs. G.A. Perry and two brothers, George A. and 
S.E. Dean, also numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
