Ionia Daily Sentinel, 22 Mar 1918

Nelson G. Avery’s death occurred at his home Wednesday afternoon at three
o’clock, and the funeral will be attended Saturday afternoon from the residence
on Bliss street.  The death of Mr. Avery takes one of Ionia’s best known
railroad men.  He has been a familiar figure among the Pere Marquette engineers
for many years, was one of the reliables for more than thirty years, and died at
the age of 69.  Besides Mrs. Avery and the daughter, Leah, there are also
surviving a son, James, of Cleveland, and two brothers and a sister.  Mr. Avery
was a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity and of the Knights and Ladies
of Security.

The funeral for Nelson G. Avery will be held from the residence, 330 Bliss
street, Saturday at 2:30.  Rev. R. J. Slee will officiate, assisted by Rev. M.
L. Marshall.  The Masons will have charge of the burial services.  Burial in
Highland Park cemetery.
