The Lake Odessa Wave, Thursday, February 11, 1943
Mrs. Gertrude Avis, 75, for a number of years a prominent worker in the 
Congregational church, the Woman’s club, and the Eastern Star in Lake Odessa, 
died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lars Hockstad in Traverse City, 
Saturday.  Her deceased husband Thomas Avis was Pere Marquette RR agent here 
for many years prior to about 1915 when they moved to Grand Rapids where he 
died several years ago.  She had been an active member of Park Congregational 
church in Grand Rapids.  Besides the daughter she is survived by a son Homer 
in Grand Rapids.  Funeral services were held from her late home Tuesday and 
burial was in Oak Hill cemetery in Grand Rapids.
