He was born March 5, 1951, in Hastings, the son of Keith and Elaine (Curtis) Ayres. He was a 1969 Lakewood High School graduate, and was married Jeanne Simon on Sept. 17, 1970, in Lake Odessa. Mr. Ayres was a member of the Central United Methodist Church and the Lake Odessa Lions Club. He operated M. L. Ayres Jewelers in Lake Odessa for several years; and was an avid amateur meteorologist and reported the weather for WBCH in Hastings and on his telephone line, Weatherline Plus. He is survived by his wife, Jean; two daughters, Jennifer and Laurie, both at home; his parents Frank and Elaine Stanger of Lake Odessa and Keith and Ilene Ayres of Marquette; one brother, Daniel of Saranac; one sister, Judy Lehman of Eaton Rapids; two half-brothers, Steve Stanger and David Ayres; two half- sisters, Sue and Sheri Stanger; his father- and mother-in-law, Francis and Jeanette Simon on Woodland. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa, with the Rev. Charles Richards officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral chapel Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions to the family may be made in care of the Koops Funeral Chapel.
