Mrs. Babcock was the daughter of Albert and Eliza Patterson Williams, Mr. Williams being a former attorney in Ionia and an attorney-general of Michigan during the Civil war. She was born in Otisco township in December 1846. She and Mrs. Emma Rich Lowe were the only two pupils to be graduated in the class of 1870, just one year before the first commencement exercises were held at the Ionia high school, therefore they were entitled to be called the oldest members of the Ionia alumni association. In November, 1871, she was united in marriage to Burton Babcock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lucius Babcock, of Berlin township, two daughters being born to them, Mrs. A.B. Sibley, of Ionia, and Miss Lucy Babcock at home. Except for a short time when they lived in Ionia and Muir, they have spent the remainder of their lives on the farm near Bellamy creek in Easton. Mrs. Babcock had been confined to her bed since her husband’s death two years ago. Surviving are two daughters, four grandchildren, Burton, Annie Bell, Frederick, and Alexander Sibley, a nephew, Judge Lucius Babcock, of El Reno, Okla., and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna B. Morse, of Ionia. Funeral services will be held at the residence in Easton at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, with burial at Highland Park cemetery.
