Babcock, one of the early pioneers of Ionia county, died at his home in Langford, Marshall county, Dakota, April 1st, of typhoid pneumonia, after an illness of six days. He was born in Hopewell, New York, in 1829; came to Michigan with the family of his father, Deacon William Babcock, in 1836, setting in Berlin, on what is now the Maj. Kelsey place, 2 1/2 moles south of city. In 1878, he moved to Ovid, and in 1883, to Dakota. He was a brother of Mrs. Elizabeth M. Harter of this city.
