Though Mr Backus was not subject to heart attacks, he had spoken of feeling slightly indisposed during the day. Surviving are his widow, Emma; two daughters, Mrs Robert Dryer at Hastings and Mrs Thomas English; a sister Mrs Archie VanHouten, Lake Odessa; and a half- sister Mrs.Arthur Godfrey at Colorado Springs, Col.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Pickens Funeral Chapel Tuesday afternoon with interment made in Lakeside cemetery.
