The funeral home is on First Street. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery in Jackson. Bacon was supervisor of records and identification at Michigan Reformatory from 1933 to 1947, although he took a military leave of absence during World War II. He began his work at Southern Michigan prison in Jackson as assistant deputy warden in 1947 and later was promoted to deputy warden. Bacon died of an apparent heart attack some time Wednesday afternoon. He had taken his axe into the woods surrounding his summer home at Mio early Wednesday afternoon and was later discovered by a neighbor near the house. Bacon had been retired from the prison since May 25, 1966. Surviving are his wife, the former Ila Purdy of Orleans; two sons, William , a 1967 graduate of Cornell and a graduate student at Wayne State university, and Judd, an attorney with Consumer’s Power company in Jackson, a granddaughter, two sisters and a brother.
