Bertha Fern Probart was born August 23rd in Odessa township, she being an only child. The greatest part of her life was spent here, she beginning her school work in the local high school, and graduating with her class in 1900. She is the second of her class to be called by death. With her father she was baptized and received into the local Congregational church at the age of ten. She was active in church work being organist for a long time. On June 11th 1902 she was united in marriage to Edgar Badgley of this place. She remained in her home town until she moved with her husband to Lowell to which place she was a resident at the time of her death, making many friends during her stay there. So great was her concern for her bereaved husband and parents in her sad hour of death, that she requested her nurse to comfort and console them and planned as much as was possible for the funeral arrangements. The last sad hour found her ready to meet death with the Christian faith and fortitude best expressed in these words,"Yea though I walk through the valley and the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me and thy rod and staff they comfort me." Our of town residents who attended the funeral were Mr.and Mrs. U.B. Williams, Mrs.Robinson, Mrs.Wm.Pullen, Charles Speaker, Mrs.Elizabeth Speaker of Lowell, Mrs.Will Robinson of Mendon, Ray Badgley and daughter Lucile of Grand Rapids, Mark Probart and wife and Mrs.Reed of Pewamo, Mr and Mrs. J.C.
