Mr. Bailey, who was well known and active in resort and hotel circles, particularly in the northern resort country, was the son of Mrs. Etta Bailey, of Ionia, who went to Cheboygan to accompany the body here. His father, Edward R. Bailey, died many years ago. Born in the old Bailey hotel, recently dismantled, and which for many years was operated by his parents, Mr. Bailey spent his early years in Ionia. His widow survives with his mother. Subsequent Publication: Friday, October 31, 1930 The Youngs homestead on West Washington street, was the scene of the funeral rites Friday for John Bailey, one of three funeral services held in the home within recent months. The same room, where several of his ancestors reposed for the services, John Bailey reposted amid flowers composed largely of shaggy chrysanthemums in the large and small varieties and in colors, mostly white, the beautiful pieces being varied with some of the richer tones. Mr. Bailey was probably one of the best known men of northern Michigan, where he served as host in one of the large and popular hotels of the north at Topinabee. To those of Ionia who have known him from boyhood, his passing brought more than the usual sorrow that attend the death of a man still young, although he has been meeting the public for many years. His death bereft a mother of an only child and the relatives of a companion known by his happy congenial disposition and his kindness and thoughtfulness to those dear to him. The services were conducted by Rev. Edwin G. White, pastor of the St. John’s Episcopal church, which has had the support of the near relatives of Mr. Bailey for many years. In those that were present there, was a large number of the Masonic order who came to the family with a feeling of fraternal brotherhood and placing their floral offerings amid the others paid their last respect to John Bailey. The Masonic square and compass of the order held its place of the flowers at the bier. The interment took place in the Highland Park mausoleum.
