   EX BUSINESSMAN DIED SUDDENLY AT HOME WEDNESDAY
  Frederic R. Baine, a retired funeral director died unexpectedly at his home
Wednesday noon, a day before his 64th birthday.  Coroner Dale Kauffman of Ionia 
said death was due to a heart ailment.
  Mr. Baine came here about 25 years ago from Charlotte and became associated with
Walter E. Wortley in the funeral home and furniture store.  They sold their interests 
to Clare and Arlo Pickens in January 1946
  He was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal church at Hastings, President of the
local Union Bank, a member of the Lions Club, a former member of the Village Council and Fair
Association and was active in community civic affairs.
  Surviving are his wife, Gertrude, two sons Frederic Jr. of Detroit and Larry at
home and two sisters, Mrs. Eathel Crockford of Lansing and Mrs. Urah Wortley of Lake Odessa.
  Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 at the Pickens funeral chapel with burial
in Lakeside cemetery. Rev. Don M. Gury of Hastings officiated.
