Ionia Sentinel Standard, 24 Feb 1984

Thelma K. Baird, 60, Ionia, died Thursday in Blodgett Memorial Medical Center 
in Grand Rapids.  She was born Feb. 25, 1923 in Spencer Township, Kent county, 
the daughter of Rufus and Mary Hubbard Rasmussen.  She attended Ionia schools, 
graduating in 1941.  She worked at the J.C. Penney Store, worked as secretary 
to Albert Gibson at Gibson Refrigerator in Greenville, worked for the Michigan 
Employment Security Commission, and served as manpower specialist for the WIN 
program, retiring in 1980.  

She married Russell V. Baird April 16, 1945, and they lived in Ionia their 
entire married life.  He preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1983.  Survivors 
include one son, Russell of Ionia; her mother, Mary Rasmussen of Ionia; two 
grandsons, Corey and Derek; and one brother, Alvin, of San Francisco.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Leddick Funeral Home, with the 
Rev. Kenneth Harger of the Shiloh Community Church officiating.  Burial will be 
in Balcom Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 
9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  A memorial has been established 
for the Ionia County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, in care of the 
funeral home.
