Frank Baker, 64, Ionia merchant for 35 years, died at his Ionia home at 217 Lafayette street, Wednesday morning, following a lingering illness of a year and a half. Born in Ionia in 1874, Mr. Baker was educated in Ionia elementary and high schools. While a young man, he entered the grocery and marketing business, at first associating with George Collier in a meat market, and later with Will Todd in a similar business venture. Soon after, he established a store of his own, in the building now occupied by the Fate Food store on Main street. He remained in business until his retirement in 1926. He was a member of the Ionia Elks lodge, and the Modern Woodman of America. Surviving him are his wife, the former Miss Carrie McLaren, of Ionia whom he married in 1906; an uncle Fred Lehman of Grand Rapids; a niece, Mrs. Donald Hiddon of Ionia, and a nephew, Russell J. McLaren of Grand Rapids. Funeral services are to be conducted from the home Friday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Adam Westmaas of the Ionia Presbyterian church officiating and the Rev. Paul Stewart, assisting. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery. Pall bearers are to be Clarence A. Koerber, Foss O. Eldred, Ralph Donalson, D. O. Mellinger, William Marquette, and Dale K. Jepson. In charge of flowers are Mrs. Foss Eldred, Mrs. George Dye, Mrs. Ray Colwell, and Mrs. Clarence Koerber.
