Marguerita (Rita) Baker, 63, of 10362 Charlotte Highway, Portland, died
Wednesday at her home.  Born Feb. 17, 1927, in Ionia, she was the daughter of
Sam and Karen Christensen Nielsen.  She was a member of the First Baptist
Church, Portland, and active in the church as a Sunday school teacher and Sunday
school secretary; and for 28 years she was head cook at Winter Retreat Camp,
Lake Ann, Mich.

Surviving are her husband Gilbert (Pete); two sons, Gilbert (Sam) of Portland
and Daniel (Peter) of Lyons; two daughters, Karen Louise Bruder of Portland and
Sharon Elaine Baker of St. Clair Shores; six grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth
Nielsen of Lake Odessa; and three sisters, Dorothy Bennett and Mattie Brooks of
Ionia and Marjorie Chickering of Belding.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Neller Funeral Home, with the Rev.
Donald Chapel of First Baptist Church of Portland officiating.  Burial was in
Portland Cemetery.
